Abstract
The present piece is an attempt to examine the meaning of Theodor W. Adorno’s enigmatic notion of an “imageless materialism” as it appears in his magnum opus Negative Dialectics (1966). As we will find, this
formulation is curious, not least, because it brings together an avowedly materialist concern with an ostensibly biblical motif: the Old Testament ban on making images of God.
