Abstract
In this paper an Intentional Controlled Islanding (ICI) scheme is investigated as a last resort corrective action, to prevent an imminent blackout. The proposed methodology for ICI is based on simulated real-time measurements from Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) which are used for online identification of power system dynamic behavior. The methodology aims to split the system into two islands based on information from online identification of power system dynamic behavior. An islanding index is also proposed to determine the optimum islanding solution for the specific contingency. The methodology is applied on the IEEE68 Bus test system.
