    Abstract

Manufacturing is changing rapidly. The processes, equipment, and systems which are used to design and manufacture products are undergoing dramatic changes in response to new customer needs, competitive challenges, and emerging technologies. One important goal in manufacturing research is to optimise the process of producing sound products. CAD/CAM systems and rapid modelling equipment facilitate this process. Additionally, computerised engineering tools such as FEA assure robust, high quality product designs right from the start of the production process. This paper presents an assessment of a particular finite element software suite (Design Environment for FORMing) for modelling a hot forging process. Copyright © 2008 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.
