    The replacement of coordinated acetylacetonate for nitrate around a {DyIII} ion results in the enhancement of the single molecule magnet properties of a \{{CoIII}2DyIII2\} complex, resulting in a large thermal energy barrier and reduced quantum tunnelling at low temperatures.
