Abstract

This special issue bring together wholly original material written explicitly in order to begin to define and set the parameters for the discipline of Arab Cultural Studies. There is only one other edited book on the subject and its editor is a contributor here to the dialogue section (Tariq Sabry). This collection also brings together the most important intellectuals in the field of cultural studies in the Arab world - namely Walter Armbrust; Rebecca Stein; Anna Bernard; Iman Hamam; Anna Ball; Dalia Mostafa; Joel Gordon; Karim Tartoussieh and Stefanie Van de Peer. All of the above have worked and published in this area for a number of years and are committed to seeing this field established as a more formal sub-discipline of Arab and Cultural Studies. The contributors to the dialogue section are also long standing academics in the field who are all working on projects intimately linked with Arab Cultural Studies.
