    Abstract

This research looks at the influences of different teaching styles on learning in the mathematical classroom for low attaining students. Teacher-led, the use of ICT and group work were the three teaching styles used in the investigation. The quantitative and qualitative results obtained from the study gave an indication of the preferred teaching style in terms of their ability to solve tasks, whether they were engaged and motivated, their understanding of the topic and the lesson they enjoyed. It was noted that due to the lack of effective interactions and the lack of directional instructions, they did not enjoy and were not able to solve the task efficiently employing the group work teaching style. The students favoured the ICT but the teacher-led approach gave them the engagement and motivation and the ability to solve the task.
