Abstract
The following article aims to understand astroinformatics as an emerging sub-discipline in the context of a sustained increase of the large amount of data produced by astronomy. For this purpose, a qualitative study is conducted which includes interviews to international experts of the area in order to investigate their topics of interest within this field and how it has been defined. In the same way, the triple helix hypothesis is used, as coordination between the company, the state and the university, to explore the strategies that Chile has used to position itself within the global scenario and to develope its scientific culture through astroinformatics. The study concludes discussing the challenges that the country is facing in the current conformation of a scientific subfield and the role that it could have in shaping this new generation in the field of astronomy.
