    Abstract

The com. available ruthenium carbene complex RuCl2(:CHPh)(PCy3)2 efficiently catalyzes the cyclization of halo alkenes, e.g. Cl3CCO2CH2CH:CH2, to g-lactones and g-lactams, e.g. 3,3-dichloro-4-(chloromethyl)dihydro-2(3H)-furanone. [on SciFinder (R)]
