Abstract
In the twin fields of business education and business training, the term 'simulation' has become largely synonymous with 'business gaming', a specific form of simulation modelled inncreasingly on real-life business situations. This chapter is devoted to an appraisal of business gaming and its particular contribution to the communication process in the classroom and the training department. We draw on our considerable experience with running games in college and industry to highlight the emerging rules and conditions for successful implementation of this innovative pedagogic technique. Compared to non-gaming simulations, business games possess an additional (and special) dimension which, as we show, alters the traditional structure of associated communication.
