Abstract

This is a selection, translation and annotation of the letters and diaries of Carl Nielsen (1865-1931), Denmark's national composer and one of the most important international figures in the transition from Romanticism to Modernism in music. 739 letters and diary entries are translated in the 832-page volume. Fanning is responsible for ca. 60% of the annotations and 80% of the Introduction and translations, including ca. 1000 of the 1489 footnotes
