Abstract
Cross direction (CD) shrinkage profiles can be measured by using image analysis to detect changes in dimensions of the wire mark, but a repeatable method is required to determine the parameters from the curves. It is necessary to fit the experimental points to a model, rather than just use a smooth curve which is pleasing to the eye, to ensure consistent treatment of the range of profile shapes. This paper has determined an appropriate model and has used it to calculate parameters, which can be compared for 3 high-speed newsprint machines with different configuration.
