Abstract
Industrial assets are becoming more and more complex in terms of the number of components, the level of integration, operation and maintenance conditions. This has raised many challenges that industrial organizations need to address and solve in daily bases. This high level of complexity has become the fourth industrial revolution. Industry 4.0, which can be named as ‘Internet of Things’ (IoT), has brought great opportunities as well as some challenges. Therefore, this study highlights these opportunities and challenges in terms of assets integration, organizational culture, competency, maintenance strategies and implementation, engineering asset management governance and standards. Further, the study finds that the key challenges are a) lack of talent, b) unclear investment and implementation plan for IoT, c) organizational resistance to change, d) lack of standards. Last, the study proposes a conceptual engineering asset management framework that can manage industrial assets efficiently and effectively.
