Abstract

We begin this paper by proposing that character is the foundation of a person’s identity. Thus character should have important implications in organizational research. We review character research in organizational studies with a focus on the approaches used. In doing this, we learn that character has been defined in a variety of ways and that no single definition has emerged. Next we look at the various models of character before examining the different approaches to studying character. Finally, we review the current literature on measuring character in organizational research. We conclude that organizational research would benefit from an increased focus on character.
