Abstract
The characterization of void and reinforcement distributions metal matrix composites (MMC) was discussed using x-ray edge-contrast microtomography. The selection of reinforcements was limited to those that possess an absorption edge such that X-ray attenuation by the specimen above and below the edge falls into an acceptable range. The analysis showed a linear relation between local reinforcement content and void volume fraction.
