Abstract

“Hu - a sonic puzzle in Chinatown” is a geo-locative soundwalk composition created by Ricardo Climent as part of LocativeAudio(.org) project by NOVARS. It was part of a larger soundwalk tour entitled “City as Augmented Aurality” taking place in Manchester, UK between 10th-12th June 2011.
This city soundwalk tour was sponsored by Cities@manchester (later Manchester Urban Institute) and encapsulated five newly created compositions deployed on NoTours platform. NoTours (currently discontinued) was a geolocative technology originally developed by Enrique Tomas and Horacio Dieguez (Escoitar) in 2010. The geolocative tour included pieces by composers such as Brona Martin, Suk-Jun Kim, Mark Pilkington, Ignacio Pecino and Climent himself, who commissioned NoTours to organise a number of audiotours in blocks of 15 soundwalkers during the festival.
“Hu” is an enigmatic Sonic Puzzle in Chinatown, Manchester, where soundwalkers must unfold the mystery of the murder of a Roast Duck (Pekin style) who made a scape from a local restaurant. The voice over is narrated by voice actor Gordon Delap (Leitir Ceanainn) and the story and is informed by a fictional murder rampage started by a mysterious character canvassing Chinatown area.
