Abstract
The primary aim of this review seeks to gather and analyse information in relation to the impact of clinical audit as undertaken in the NHS in England. The specific objectives of the review were to define impact in relation to current practice of clinical audit and to provide examples from published literature, reports from national clinical audits and from an online NHS survey. The review found that there was extensive evidence of impact in the published literature; little as yet from national reports and a comprehensive account of self reported examples of impact from the online survey.
