Abstract

Cloud Computing has developed into a catchphrase in industry today. It has become ever-present in the digital era as a result of the propagation of the Internet. It is one of the hottest topics in IT/IS and has become of significant interest to practitioners and academics due to its economic value. However, the benefits of cloud computing will not be fully achieved just on the basis of its economic value. This paper argues that cloud computing should be commercialized through an understanding of business models for any economic value to be achieved. This paper draws on the business model concept to illustrate how cloud can enhance unique opportunities for businesses seeking competitive advantage and why the business model concept should be the unique selling point for prospective adopters.
