Computational model of a rotary system with discontinuous elements

    Research output: ThesisMaster's Thesis

    Abstract

Discontinuous dynamical systems have complex behaviour patterns, due tothe discontinuous or switching elements in the system. These dynamical be-haviours have generally been well investigated within different frameworks. However, there are other ways of looking at these systems which can givevaluable insights for less well understood problems. Hybrid dynamical sys-tems is a framework which is useful for many engineering systems, and isinvestigated in this project. The aim is to model a particular system compu-tationally by means of hybrid automata-based models. Different computerprograms and simulation packages are used in order to determine how the hy-brid dynamical system interpretation of the problem relates to the originaldiscontinuous system, and to understand the limitations of computationalmodels.
