Abstract
A computer image analysis system has been developed for obtaining quantitative information from radiographs of patients who have undergone THA. Measurements are made rapidly and accurately under software control, and the results are automatically stored for transfer to standard spreadsheet, database, and statistical packages. The system has been used to study bending and loosening of the femoral component of the Charnley prosthesis. Further studies in this area are in progress. The image analysis system is capable of expansion by integrating with a patient database for efficient management and outcome evaluation.
