Corporate city? Partnership, participation and partition in urban development in Leeds

Research output: Book/ReportScholarly edition

Abstract

This book examines the many different dimensions of the distinctive restructuring of Leeds, UK. From an archetypal northern manufacturing centre, the economy of Leeds has been radically transformed, emerging from a period of recession and civil unrest, to a future where the city is heralded as a major urban development success story. The new growth sectors in Leeds revolve around the buoyant financial services industry, allied to an emergent role as a strong regional centre. However, the city remains socially divided, in terms of income, race and gender. This book addresses the ways in which economic, social and environmental fortunes are being reshaped consciously and unconsciously in pursuit of the city's new growth agenda.
