Cross-Language Dynamics Reshaping Community: Framing Deafness

Research output: Other contribution

Abstract

‘Framing Deafness’ was made in collaboration with young deaf people at Wakiso Secondary School for the Deaf, Uganda. It explores the relationship between deafness, language and community, with a special focus on the impacts of social and linguistic isolation, and how sign language and gesture has the potential to create and sustain modes of thought, empathy and communal experience among deaf young persons who are otherwise excluded from language and community.
