    Abstract

    A wide variety of electroactive materials are accessible based on a cyclopentadithiophene skeleton. This Feature Article describes the synthesis of these materials, examines their intriguing properties (i.e. high electrical conductivity, low band-gap and extended π-conjugation) and discusses the complex relationship between structure and function in this system. © The Royal Society of Chemistry 2005.
