    Research output: Patent

    Abstract

Depositing a multilayer of semiconducting organic polymers is claimed where the first layer of semiconducting organic polymer is polymerised by exposing an oxidising agent to a vapour contg. the monomer; and at least one layer of semiconducting organic polymer is polymerised electrochemically.USE - For depositing a multilayer of semiconducting organic polymers, used in the prodn. of gas sensors, partic.s for a modified silicon chip carrier.ADVANTAGE - Provides a superior method for producing a multilayer of semiconducting organic polymers. The substrate layer adheres well to the electrodes and provides an excellent surface for the deposition of a subsequent layer or layers of semiconducting organic polymer. Gas sensors with electrode spacings of 100 microns or greater may be produced, with gaps as large as several mm being spanned successfully. The chip carrier based multilayer gas sensor is mechanically robust and displays high sensitivity towards gases.
