Abstract
A USB data acquisition card based on a USB interface module (USB-IFM) MOD2 with a FT8U245AM IC on it, developed by Future Technology Devices International (FDI), was installed to increase the portability of an electrical capacitance tomography (ECT) system. USB-IFM communicates with a personal computer via USB link and with the peripheral devices via an 8-bit parallel data port (D0-D7). The accompanying software makes it easy for the users, who may not be familiar with the protocols of USB, to control other devices via I/O ports. The card can support up to 12 capacitance measurement channels and has been successfully incorporated into the ECT system.
