Abstract
This paper introduces a new project in the city of Manchester that aims to create alternative communitybased maps for walkers and cyclists. It focuses on the methods employed and the advantages of engaging map users in the design and construction of specialist cycling maps that can encourage more healthy lifestyles. Early results from the project are described and the iterative processes underpinning the design are stressed.
