Abstract

The modelling of a compressed air energy storage system (CAES), suitable for real-time simulation in the electromagnetic transients (EMT), RSCAD/RTDS simulation environment, is considered in this paper. The combined use of an averaged value model representation of the interfacing converter and reduced order representation of the motor/generator pair is employed to reduce model complexity and increase the useable time-step. Numerical simulations are used to assess the numerical properties of the developed model.
