    Abstract

The development of a rig for simulating vertical gusts on half-models at transonic conditions in the ARA Transonic Wind Tunnel is described. The target gusts are discrete gusts of a 1-cosine shape as required for aircraft certification, with lengths commensurate with typical half-model scale. The use of Dynamic Pressure-Sensitive Paint is demonstrated to provide an effective measurement technique for surface measurements of the effect of a gust on the pressure distribution on a civil reference model.
