    Abstract

The authors report in this study, the investigation of propagation channel characteristics for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems based on polarisation diversity realised using dual-port dielectric resonator antennas (DRAs). The channel matrix entries in terms of complex transmission scattering parameters are measured directly from compact single-structure DRAs with multiple polarised ports and low mutual coupling in indoor wireless environment to calculate the complementary cumulative distribution functions (CCDFs) for channel capacity. Characterisation using theoretical expressions for MIMO capacity is demonstrated by spectral efficiency and eigenanalysis CCDFs from simulation and measurements based on dual-polarised cylindrical DRAs for a 2×2 MIMO system. © 2012 The Institution of Engineering and Technology.
