Abstract
A review. In principle, most of the direct optical detection techniques perform spectroscopy on biomols. at the surface. The principles of both these approaches to use reflected radiation (inner or outer reflectance) is explained, demonstrating the advantages and disadvantages, and various applications are outlined.
