Abstract

The doxycycline encapsulation procedure on mesoporous SBA-15 silica has been studied and optimized. The supports (SBA-15 and aminopropyl-modified SBA-15) and hybrid materials containing doxycycline were synthesized and characterized by small and wide angle powder X-ray diffraction, N2 adsorption-desorption isotherms, FT-IR spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and thermal analysis. Doxycycline uptake and its release profiles in phosphate buffer solution at pH 5.5 and 37 oC were determined by UV-VIS spectroscopy. The doxycycline encapsulation protocol onto the mesoporous supports was established.
