Elastic Properties Prediction in Yarn-level Hybrid Composite Lamina

Research output: Contribution to conferenceOther

Abstract

The recent need for industries to use cost-effective composites with balanced in-plane and out-of-plane properties has paved the way for composites structures with yarn-level hybrid composite laminae. This work aims to use Repeating Unit Cells (RUCs) and Representative Volume Elements (RVEs) to accurately and cost-effectively predict the elastic properties of yarn-level hybrid UD laminae. This work employs 3D models to be able to predict all the nine engineering constants. The results are validated by comparing them with previous data available in the literature. The pros and cons of each model are carefully discussed.
