    Abstract

The Programmer's Hierarchial Interactive Graphics System (PHIGS) is an International Standard for computer graphics and application modelling. Implementations of PHIGS for a variety of systems have been commercially available for a number of years, and it is rapidly increasing in popularity as an applications platform, both in industry and academia. The paper surveys the facilities provided by PHIGS, and draws on practical and published experience to present an evaluation of its suitability for CAD and general graphics applications. © 1991.
