title = "Extended X-ray Emission from a Millisecond Pulsar with a Heavy Companion in an EGRET Error Box",
abstract = "PSR J1614-2230 is a 3.15 ms pulsar recently discovered in an EGRET error box with a spin-down power marginally consistent with the coincident gamma-ray source luminosity given the dispersion measure distance. It is in an 8.4 d orbit around a companion with a minimum mass m > 0.4 MSun. This was the first such massive companion to be found around a fast millisecond pulsar and is larger than that allowed by the standard scenario of extended accretion from a low mass star. We present a short (5 ks) XMM-Newton observation which reveals a point source with additional, harder emission to the southeast that does not appear to be point-like. If this is interpreted as a trailing X-Ray pulsar wind nebula, the implied direction of motion is consistent with the proper motion determined from 3 years of radio timing studies. This work is partially supported by a grant from the NASA XMM-Newton GO program.",
