    Abstract

The paper reports on extending ODBMSs using metaclasses. Adam, an object-oriented database management system developed by the authors, provides metaclasses to make it easier to extend an ODBMS. In Adam, metaclasses turn traditional classes into normal objects, which can receive messages and which have attributes and methods that describe the database's structure and behavior.
