Abstract
Hearing loss (HL), affects over 20% of the global population, and a high proportion of adults visiting eye care services may have underlying deficits in their hearing ability. It is important that vision professionals understand HL so they get the best from the eye exam and ensure implementation of appropriate support, as strategies for supporting low vision may not be effective if the patient also has underlying HL. The aim of this paper is to introduce HL and suggest practical tips for assessing and managing eye care in people with varying degrees of HL.
