Abstract

Long-time resident of Walton Cardiff and popular figure around Tewkesbury, Margaret Greaves had a life experience and hereditary history that was every bit as exotic as those of the stars of the current popular BBC TV series Who do you think you are? Ironically it was some twenty-five years after her death that details of her strange family background finally came to light – and then almost by accident. But what an extraordinary story hers turned out to be – and how utterly at odds with the supposed norms and conventions of the Victorian society into which she was born.
