Abstract
A Nuclear Engineering group was formed in the Engineering Department at Manchester University in 1959, and since that time most of its research has been funded by the nuclear industry rather than the research councils. The work has been wide ranging, covering problems associated with a number of reactor types, storage, transportation and reprocessing. Much of the work has been in the field of heat transfer, the majority experimental in nature, and in recent years an increasing proportion has been relevant to operational safety. This article describes the facilities that have been available to the researchers and reviews recent progress at Manchester in the field of fast reactor heat transfer.
