Field study of Station Uniform on sensory comfort and usability for Firefighters

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the psychological responses of firefighters while wearing station uniform of the Hong Kong Fire Services Department during rescue operations. 145 healthy male firefighters wore the station uniform in their operation. Questionnaires that were given out have been collected after one month from the beginning of the field study. In the field study, actual work of firefighters were requested. The result showed the performance from subjective responses of appearance, sensory responses and complaints induced by washing. The performance of proposed uniform was always better than existing uniform because most of rating of optimized uniform were always higher or similar than existing uniform.
