Abstract
This research investigates how innovation occurs in the networks found within Manchester’s creative and digital sector; specifically, the aim is to explore and understand the role that innovation and networks play in increasing value to the businesses concerned, using case research.
The photograph depicts a section of a renovated wall; a combination of old and new brickwork. The wall represents innovation – blending old and new to form a solid foundation for the future and the networks of people involved over time.
Access can be a practical barrier in case study research (Yin, 2009). Here, initiating new contacts was balanced with building on pre-existing relationships, symbolised by the fusion of old and new bricks.
