Frans Floris (1519/20-1570): Imagining a Northern Renaissance

Research output: Book/Report › Book › peer-review

Abstract

In all periods of history, there has been a mixing of influences from people to people, from school to school. At one time Italy profoundly dominated artists such as Floris, Vaenius and de Vos. Yet all of them found a place with us, in our southern Netherlandish school. Later, Peter Paul Rubens made his trip to Italy; he returned Italianized but this too he did in order to renew Flemish art completely.
