Abstract

Capabilities of friction enhancement of MDO coatings on Al alloys by plasma-assisted deposition of thin carbon-based surface layers are considered. Friction coefficients are determined for the coatings, under pin-on-disc sliding against tungsten carbide. The plasma-assisted deposition is found to decrease friction coefficient from 0.62 till 0.18 and stabilize friction behaviour of the pair due to decrease of adhesion between the bodies.
