Abstract

Gulam examines the relationship between Angelina Jolie’s campaigns for various causes and the development of her film career. The chapter concentrates on the period 2007–2014, starting with the actress’s starring role in A Mighty Heart (2007) and ending with her biggest box office hit to date—Maleficent (2014). The chapter concludes that Jolie’s humanitarianism was pivotal to her screen stardom in these years, helping to lay the foundations for a film career which extends beyond the period when she can no longer realistically play action babe characters like Lara Croft.
