Abstract

The National Surface Engineering Center (NASURF) commissioned a reappraisal of the study made in 1992 on `The UK Engineering Coatings Industry in 2005' to update the economic figures and market predictions. The new study, `2005 Revisited - The UK Surface Engineering Industry to 2010,' includes coatings used in areas other than corrosion and wear protection, and evaluates the economic significance of these coatings on the products to which they are applied. The new report reevaluates the economic statistics, and finds that the original study's figures were correct with only two technologies (thermal spraying and heat treatment) requiring more than minor revision.
