    Abstract

Analysing a gas sample comprises exposing at least one gas sensor to the sample. An alternating electric signal is applied to the sensor and the frequency of the signal is varied. An impedance characteristic of the sensor as a function of frequency is detected or calculated and compared to impedance characteristics obtained by exposing the sensor to gases or gas mixtures of known composition. Also claimed is an apparatus for gas sample analysis.USE - Used for analysing a gas sample.ADVANTAGE - By applying an alternating signal to a sensor with a semiconducting organic polymer the system may be used to determine the composition of a mixture of gases, or the identity of a pure but unknown gas sample, or if the gas sample is pure or to differentiate between samples of different, but unknown composition.
