Abstract

Global conflicts have evolved significantly in recent decades. This paper explores the challenges that inform current global conflict trends with implications for where and how future conflicts may emerge. Informed by a feminist lens, the paper examines the root causes, key players, via the complex interplay of geopolitical rivalries, economic inequalities, technological advancements, and environmental challenges. The analysis highlights the lasting implications of the shift from traditional interstate wars to a range of different types of internal conflicts and the growing influence of non-state actors, cyber insecurity, and mainstreaming of extreme ideologies. It also explores the implications of resource scarcity and climate change as catalysts for future conflicts. The paper provides an overview of current conflict trends, including major power rivalries, and anticipates potential flashpoints in regions such as the Arctic, Middle East, and Africa. By analysing these dynamics, the paper underscores the importance of strategic planning and international cooperation to address emerging security challenges and promote global stability.
