Abstract
The article outlines the main stages of the formation of the Rylands papyri collection in the wider context of late Victorian Manchester. It presents and publishes for the first time some recently discovered archival material on a particular acquisition that took place in 1912 through the agency of the famous theologian A. Deissmann.
