Abstract

In this study heatwave incidents are considered in Thessaloniki for the period 1960-2003 (44 years). Hourly air temperature and relative humidity are used for the months May, June, July, August, September. Data are derived by Meteorological Station of Institute Meteorology and Climatology of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Hourly bioclimatic indexes Temperature Humidity Index (THI) and Summer Simmer Index (SSI) are calculated. Annual and monthly distributions of these indexes are constructed, and maximum frequencies of heatwave are detected in Thessaloniki. THI and SSI are compared in annually and monthly scale and their similarities and differences are appeared and surveyed.
