Abstract

The volume addresses some issues concerning the HIV/AIDS pandemic of great relevance today in southern Africa, the region most affected by the disease in the world. In particular, it analyzes the effects and main problems that the disease has caused, and is causing - as well as the discussion that has developed on this in recent years - in the region, both from the point of view of health and development policies at national and within the regional cooperation body (the Southern African Development Community, SADC), both with respect to the effects and policies at the local level and, in particular, with respect to rural communities.
