Abstract

For many social scientists, writing is a core element of their professional identity. Learning to write in an appropriate manner is central to postgraduate training, as are the challenges of negotiating often difficult peer review processes. Yet, the subsequent fate of what we have written is too rarely addressed. This is a problem because changes in the landscape of scholarly publishing mean academics increasingly have to take active responsibility for ensuring the readership of what they have published. Social media platforms can be powerful tools for contributing to this undertaking. They can also be time-consuming and counterproductive. This guide offers a practical approach to promoting your work online in effective and time-sensitive ways which respect your intellectual identity as a researcher
