Human measurement and product development for high-performance apparel

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

Human measurement remains the basis for developing body worn products and currently there have been significant developments in the techniques and technology used to analyze the body and collect data related to its dimensions. However, although developments have occurred, there are still significant areas that require changes to ensure that the full potential of this technology can be realized. Part of this with regard to high-performance clothing is the ability to control the size, fit, and proportion of garments for individuals, something which is difficult to do, even with these advances, often because of limitations inherent in existing practices that underpin current approaches. This chapter explores some of the limitations and makes recommendation for changes, which will aid the transition from existing approaches to those that are better supported by new technology. This will help in the creation of body worn products, especially those where function and performance are paramount to the success and often safety of the wearer.
